|Description:||This introduction to Modeling instruction in biology is NOT a full-fledged Modeling Workshop. It is for teachers worldwide who would like a taste of Modeling Instruction, to see its potential.
PEER LEADER: Anita Schuchardt, PhD (co-developer of biology Modeling curriculum)
Participants will be introduced to the Modeling Method, developed at Arizona State University, as a systematic approach to design of curriculum and instruction. The modeling cycle is described at http://modeling.asu.edu/modeling-HS.html.
This 1-week institute is not a full-fledged Modeling Workshop, but is a 40-hour introduction to Modeling Instruction in biology. Modeling Instruction is a complex transformative pedagogy. Experience has shown that most teachers require at least three weeks of intensive workshop to begin to implement it. Thus a follow-up 2- or 3-week Modeling Workshop is highly recommended to deepen and broaden one's understanding.
