Description: A 1-week introduction to Modeling Instruction in mechanics (July 14 to 18), followed by a 1-week intermediate Modeling Workshop in mechanics (July 21 to 25), will be held at Guerin Catholic High School in Noblesville, Indiana at 15300 N. Gray Road. (See the map.)

8:30am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday

The workshop series is sponsored by the Northern Indiana Science, Mathematics and Engineering Collaborative (NISMEC) for Indiana teachers of physics, chemistry, physical science and math.  Additional NISMEC Modeling Workshops include:
  • A 1-week introduction to chemistry Modeling Instruction (July 7 to 11)
  • A 1-week intermediate workshop in chemistry (July 14 to 18)
  • These will be held at University High School in Carmel, and led by Erica Posthuma-Adams.

    [Feb. 2014: we do not recommend the NISMEC workshops at Hammond, and at Evansville, as ways to learn Modeling Instruction, because the peer leaders have not had sufficient training to meet AMTA standards for depth of understanding of Modeling Instruction.]

Benefits and Requirements

Cost: Free for Indiana teachers, $600 per week for non-Indiana teachers

Benefit Explanation: Indiana teachers will receive a stipend, if funding is sufficient.

A light breakfast, and am and pm snacks, will be provided.
1st year AMTA membership will be provided.
6 whiteboards will be provided (24" x 32").

Teachers can register at Notre Dame University for $400 per credit, up to 3 credits for 3 workshop weeks. It is okay to register for zero credits for no cost.
Other Prerequisites: Priority to Indiana high school physics and ICP teachers.

Two semesters of college courses in physics.

A 5-day introduction to Modeling Instruction in mechanics is prerequisite for the intermediate 1-week Modeling Workshop.
