Since almost any science teacher in Texas may be assigned to teach physics, our role is very general and at a foundational level.  We try to provide a productive classroom experience for all students majoring in education, as well as to potential alternative certification candidates.

The Teaching Academy Program Peers (TAPP) at San Antonio College was established in 1999 under a grant to support the academic preparation of students who were pursuing an education degree and teacher certification.  It has continued as a student organization for Education Majors and future teachers offering semi-annual scholarships, interactions with Education Professionals, student mentoring opportunities, information for students transferring to upper-level institutions, opportunities to attend professional conferences, sponsorship of a speaker series on campus, and service project opportunities since 1999.

It is hoped that our PTEC membership will result in a better curriculum for preparing teachers to help students learn physics and will facilitate partnerships with other member institutions in our area to enhance physics teacher preparation.  More recently, we partnered with another local PTEC member institution to initiate a Learning Assistant pilot program during the 2013-14 terms.  Although results were promising, program operations ended along with the funding.
