The physics department offers the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in physics and physical science. The physics department has had classes for teachers in Modeling, Force and Motion, renewable energy, Atomic Physics, Experimental Physics and Modern topics. We have used model curriculum such as Modeling, Real Time Physics, and Physics for Elementary Teachers in our classes and workshops.

Our introductory courses are taught in studio style.

BSU has been successful in developing professional development programs for existing teachers. Through our classes and workshops for in-service teachers the physics department has a group of excellent teachers we are in regular communication with. Several of these teachers are responsible for sending their students to BSU to major in physics and becoming physics teachers themselves. BSU received a recent grant from the Massachusetts Math Science Partnership to provide professional development to middle and high school teachers across southeastern Massachusetts to improve the content knowledge in physical and earth science. BSU also works with school districts on district based programs that move teachers from an initial license to a professional license. We offer summer science and mathematics content workshops for in-service teachers.
