The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware offers a B.A. in Physics Education intended for students that want to become high school physics teachers. The degree has a substantial education component and requires a semester of student teaching.

Students in this program must pass a teacher competency test. In the past students take courses in the physics department and later go to the College of Education and Human Development.

Now and in the immediate future the Department, with the hiring of an Assistant Professor of instruction and by becoming a member of PhysTEC, plans to revive and restructure the program from a dormant state to one that recruits and retains students that go on to serve the community as high school physics teachers. The Department plans to implement recruitment and retention strategies to find and nurture students that desire high school physics teaching as a primary or secondary career.
