Conceptual Survey in Electricity & Magnetism (CSEM)

CSEM is given only as a post-test in the second course of the calculus and non-calculus physics sequences. As discussed in the paper by the authors of the diagnostic, the lack of understanding of the terms used makes the results of a pre-test hard to interpret. We found that we got very little information from a CSEM pre-test and caused much frustration for the students. Instead we give the FCI again at the beginning of the second semester course.
