Description: This Modeling Workshop is for teachers worldwide.

Dates: July 24-28 and July 31-August 4, 2017.
Content: Week 1, kinematics & dynamics and Week 2, energy & momentum

    The workshop on physics teaching addresses most aspects of high school teaching, including integration of teaching methods with course content for physics classrooms.  Special emphasis will be placed on modeling conceptual development and integrating technology appropriate for middle and high school.
     Participants will be introduced to the Modeling Method, developed at Arizona State University, as a systematic approach to design of curriculum and instruction.  Participants will be instructed on computer hardware and software, techniques for laboratory data collection and analysis, and internet use to help them become more expert on best uses of technology in education.

Physics Workshop Goals
The first-week option is not a full-fledged Modeling Workshop, but is a 40-hour introduction to modeling pedagogy. Modeling Instruction is a complex transformative pedagogy. Experience has shown that most teachers require at least three weeks of intensive workshop to begin to implement it. A second Modeling Workshop is highly recommended to deepen and broaden one's understanding.

Details of workshop content:
     The first-week concentrates on modeling pedagogy through the use of whiteboards and Socratic dialog with an exposure to a kinematics and dynamics to teaching physics:
* Data collection and graphing
* Constant velocity particle model
* Constant acceleration particle model
* Free particle model (SumF = 0)
* Constant force particle model (SumF=ma)

     The second week continues applying the use of modeling pedagogy to look at more challenging physics content including:
* Combined free and constant force particle motion: projectiles
* The impulsive force model: conservation of momentum
* The central force model: circular motion
* Conservation of energy

Other Prerequisites: 2 semesters of college-level algebra-based physics are highly recommended.
Second week participants are expected to have taken a weeklong introduction to physics modeling instruction either previously in Kennebunk or other modeling workshop location.
