Description: This Modeling Workshop is open to physics and physical science teachers worldwide who have had a 2-week or longer Modeling Workshop in mechanics.

LOCATION: Fermilab, Batavia IL.
PREREQUISITE: a mechanics Modeling Workshop of minimum 2 weeks duration.

REGISTRATION BEGINS ON FEB. 1, 2017.

GOALS: Each Modeling Workshop is an intensive 2- or 3-week course with these goals:
1. Educate teachers in use of a model-centered, guided-inquiry, interactive engagement method of teaching, and strengthen content knowledge at the same time.
2. Help participants integrate computer courseware effectively into the curriculum.
3. Help teachers make better use of national resources for science education.
4. Establish electronic network support and a learning community among participants.
5. Strengthen local institutional support for participants as school leaders in disseminating standards-based reform in science education.

Physics Electricity and Magnetism Workshop
Teachers will review core modeling principles, discuss ways to successfully implement a modeling approach, then work through coherent model-centered materials for high school electricity and magnetism from a microscopic particle perspective to develop a deep understanding of content and how to teach it effectively. The theme that underlies all units is the concept of the field, both electric and magnetic.  These concepts will be treated:
• Electrostatic force
• Electrostatic field
• Electrostatic potential energy
• Electrostatic potential
• Electrodynamics in circuits
• Magnetic field
• Magnetic force

Four graduate credits are available for an additional $400. Do not include that with your payment; You will need to bring a check made out to Aurora University on the first day of the workshop.

Registration began on February 1, 2017. It is coordinated through Fermilab's Education Office. Fermilab is conducting many workshops this summer - please be sure you select the correct Modeling Workshop: at Lane Technical High School.

If you'd rather use the printed form from the PDF file, you can pay by check, school purchase order, or credit card.  Additionally, you can either mail or fax your registration in.  Be sure to use these same course titles for the course name entry on the written form.
Other Prerequisites: A Modeling Workshop in mechanics, of at least 2 weeks (60 contact hours).
