Aaron Osowiecki, Jesse Southwick, Boston Latin School present this session.  The Next Generation Standards call for the integration of modeling, content and engineering within science classrooms. In the energy chapter of our course, Energizing Physics, students ``discover'' energy conservation by modeling their own data obtained while investigating the speed of a marble at the end of a series of ramps. After significant practice applying conservation of energy and learning how to model elastic potential energy, students use energy conservation to design and build a rubber band bungee cord for a raw egg. Participants in this session will explore this chapter, doing their own modeling and seeing how we integrate formative assessment to ensure students succeed. At the end of the session, participants will design and build their own bungee cord, providing a thrill ride for their own egg.
