We currently have a physics track in our School of Education's adolescent education program. The graduation rate within this program is historically low, but we currently have two enrolled students.
Dr Selkowitz is developing a research program in scholarship of teaching and learning, focused on development and testing of laboratory and demonstration materials. This program will involve future teachers in research and development of pedagogy.
Participation in PTEC will benefit these efforts by connecting our faculty and students to the broader community of physics teacher training. The 2007 and 2009 PTEC conferences addressed two of the issues we are currently working on at Canisius: recruitment and diversity. We expect that the knowledge base of currently active PTEC members will help us grow our program more efficiently.
