University of North Texas (UNT) Department of Physics offers BA and BS degree programs that lead to high school physics teacher certification. We work closely with UNT’s Teach North Texas (TNT) program to prepare these future secondary physics teachers. TNT is a UTeach replication site that has been successfully implemented here at UNT. Prior to the creation of TNT, our department was producing approximately one secondary physics teacher per year. By contrast, in spring 2012, 15 physics majors took TNT courses, and we soon expect to produce 2-3 physics teachers per year now that the program has been instituted.

TNT has caused an even larger increase in the number of secondary mathematics and life science teachers produced by UNT, and we would have similar increases in the number of secondary physics teachers.

In addition, physics faculty member Dr. James Roberts provides in-service physics teacher training through The Regional Collaborative for Excellence in Science Teaching.
